Job Description
At Blount Rural Health Center, our goal is to provide the highest quality of care to our patients.
The Medical Assistant is the first physical interaction between the patient and our facility prior to the patient speaking and working with our Practitioners.
A smiling face and friendly attitude are a must for the Medical Assistant.
This job description entails the responsibilities of the Medical Assistant; however, this is not an all-inclusive list as the position requires flexibility and acceptance of other tasks as assigned.
Back Office Job Duties:
Patient check-in and triage
Escort patient to exam room
Obtain vitals and document into EMR
Triage patient: obtain chief complaint, social history, confirm pharmacy, confirm contact number, verifies any allergies, verifies vaccination, and reviews medication list with patient
Ensure cleanliness and organization of workspace
Follows all protocol for documentation
Follows all HIPAA and Infection control policies
Accurately and timely keeps Time Study up to date
Cooperates and maintains good rapport with Blount Rural Health Center staff and patients
Participates in quality assurance tasks as assigned
AWARE and performs all safe handling procedures pertaining to possibility of acquiring communicable diseases
Participates in staff meetings
Works as TEAM player
Performs other duties as assigned
Immediately reports to Executive Director any adverse outcomes, patient complaints, breaches in confidentiality or any other issues that may come to employee’s knowledge that may cause legal or negative outcomes
Front Office Job Duties:
Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting with a friendly smile and attitude in person or on the telephone
Ensuring that appropriate customer service is provided during phone and person to person contacts with health care consumers, other staff members and external suppliers
Requires all vendors to sign in and out when doing business within the clinic
Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by phone
Utilizes proper judgement for scheduling appropriate time for appointments
Verifies and updates insurance information prior to patient being seen
Obtains photo of all patients, uploads into patient record, updates photos from time to time
Obtain a screen shot of all insurance verifications from various websites, saves to patient chart
Maintains a clean, neat reception area
Daily wipes down lobby furniture, vacuums, checks bathroom for cleanliness, paper towels and toilet paper and cleans front door glass
Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information
Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information, recording, and collecting patient charges and copays
Offers Sliding Scale Fee Application for patients with no insurance to determine if they qualify for discounts
Helps maintain business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level.
Notifies Administrative Assistant if clerical supplies are low
Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information
Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes to Executive Director
Checking out all patients; along with scheduling future visits
Filtering phone calls to the appropriate persons
Enters messages to providers through EMR
Scans documents received into the patient’s personal electronic record
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Conserves resources by elimination of waste, adequate care of supplies and equipment
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to walk approximately 8,000-10,000 steps per day
Must be able to bend, squat, and reach on a regular basis
Must be able to lift approximately 50 pounds, occasionally
Required to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist frequently throughout the day
