*Assistive Technology Specialist* _\*The Assistive Technology Project for Education is funded by the Tennessee Department of Education.
We are responsible for providing assistive technology support and training to special education teams in school districts across the state.
We are seeking an eligible candidate to join our growing team in the west-middle Tennessee area.
The preferred candidate should live within this geographical region as the position requires periodic travel to school districts within these areas.
_ *Job Description * As a member of the AT Project for Education team, the individual will support the overall goals of the initiative to build district-level capacity for providing skilled assistive technology support to students with disabilities.
Tasks include: * serving as a primary consultant/liaison between AT Project and school districts, classrooms, and/or staff who reach out for assistance * developing instructional content and resources for online sharing through the Tennessee Technical Assistance Network (TN-TAN)website * providing coaching and mentoring to district-level staff and administrators * creating instructional content for dissemination through TN-TAN and agency websites, in workshops, and the online platform * conducting professional development activities (live, online, recorded) * assisting school staff with completing AT assessments, documenting, and implementing recommendations * completion of self-assessment matrices and interpretation of findings to guide action planning * guiding the development and adoption of an AT policy and procedure handbook for each district (within the intensive services tier) * showcasing AT lending library inventory to school teams * traveling to provide direct support to districts * data collection and information reporting related to district management of needs and action plan * collecting and sharing of relevant information and resources via social media *Duties and Responsibilities* Assistive Technology specialists will guide school teams and individual staff through the Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology (QIAT) matrices for identifying strengths and needs at the personnel and district-wide level.
Using this data, the specialist will assist in selecting at least one area of need to be addressed and collaborate with all involved to develop and enact an improvement plan.
Staff will provide coaching and direct support to address the district’s self-identified goals.
To support team leader skill development, this individual will mentor staff ‘trainees’ to develop competent AT team leaders and members.
This may include direct assessment of student needs/providing device recommendations, and guiding implementation.
The AT Project will establish professional learning communities in each of the eight regions across the state for educators and practitioners to provide regular opportunities for increasing knowledge and capacity to support AT in their schools.
AT specialists will collaborate to develop resources such as forms and data collection tools, teaching resources, video supports, tutorials for systems and strategies, and web-based supports, etc.
for posting on the TN-TAN website to support extended learning and professional growth.
All staff assume additional responsibilities and perform special projects as needed or directed by the program director.
*Required Qualifications* * Master’s degree in special education, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, or related field.
* Certified in assistive technology (or eligible for certification) * Minimum three (3) years full-time experience supporting or implementing the use of assistive technologies within the special education setting * Strong skills with addressing the AT needs of students with physical, cognitive, and learning disabilities * Experience conducting AT assessments and documenting findings * Experience providing direct training/guidance on the use of assistive technologies * Knowledge of accessibility features across multi-platform operating systems (Windows, Apple, and Chrome systems) * Computer proficiency with MS Suite * Strong organizational and presentation skills * Ability to work independently and as a team * Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with the administrative staff, professional and support staff, parents, LEA staff and community * Able to maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others * Possess a valid driver’s license for travel * Treats all others with respect; understands the impact of culture/background on the behavior of others, respects differences, and demonstrates inclusive behavior * Delivers work products and services to schools in a way that reflects positively upon LTVEC and the TN-DOE * Compliance with employment eligibility, including criminal background check Job Type: Full-time Pay: $60,000.
