The general purpose of the RN Charge Nurse position is to be responsible to see that the unit is operating within the regulation set forth by State and Federal agencies as well as the policies and procedures of the Facility.
Nursing assessment skills, clinical expertise and leadership skills are essential for success.
The position will interact successfully with residents, family, medical professionals, staff and consultants.

Position Responsibilities Specific responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: Completes resident clinical assessments to assure appropriate care is provided to meet individual needs; Conducts admission assessment and assists with transition for family and resident to the facility; Assists with development of resident individualized plan of care and the implementation of the same; Works with the physicians, keeping them updated on the resident’s condition; Accompanies the physician on rounds as appropriate; Maintains open communication with residents, family members and all disciplines within the facility; Maintains open lines of communication with other shifts and weekend supervisors to ensure smooth operations; Conducts unit meetings for all shifts to keep the staff updated on changes or other information necessary in the provision of care and operation of the unit; Provides leadership and motivation to the unit, always setting the example by leadership; Assures that residents receive quality care through direction provided to the staff on the unit; Assists in the identification of nursing concerns and aids in the solution process; Assists with counseling of staff as indicated and needed; Makes frequent rounds on nursing unit for problem solving; Works with IV’s, Central lines, Picc lines and draws blood; Evaluates emergency situations as necessary and intervenes appropriately according standards of care; Completes all nursing staff introductory and annual evaluations in a timely manner with input from others as appropriate; Completes required and requested paperwork; Uses problem-solving skills to make improvements in the delivery of resident care in collaboration with the Director of Nursing Services; Maintains a safe work environment and exhibits safe work practices in accordance with Facility policies and procedures, including monitoring infection control techniques to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and ensuring that fire and disaster procedures are followed in the case of an emergency; Communicates with residents, residents’ family members, and interdisciplinary team members and management regarding resident status; Attends all department meetings, in-service and/or job skills training, and/or educational programs as scheduled; Makes resident rounds on a regular basis and addresses and corrects any necessary operational issues; Reports all unusual circumstances that may involve the safety and well-being of the residents and staff in a timely manner directly to the Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing and proposes solutions; Understands, complies with, and promotes all rules regarding residents’ rights and confidentiality.
Complies with HIPAA and Corporate Compliance Programs; Promotes harmonious relationships with others and exhibits a positive attitude among the health care interdisciplinary team; Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to skilled nursing facilities, as well as adheres to, upholds, and enforces all facility policies and procedures; and Performs additional functions or duties, as assigned by the supervisor.
Education/Certifications/Experience EDUCATION: Associate’s degree from an accredited school of nursing is necessary.
Completion of Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
CERTIFICATION:Current RN license is required.
Employee must be in good standing with the State of Kentucky.
Possession of a current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers CPR certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE: Sufficient experience in order to perform daily tasks with an understanding of the duties involved.
Prior experience as a Staff Nurse is required.
A minimum of one year as a Charge Nurse or supervisory experience in an assisted living facility is preferred.
