Individuals selected for this position will participate in an 18–24-month rotational program which has been designed to build and develop the next generation of operations leaders at Vulcan Materials Company.
Through ongoing, hands-on training, experiential learning opportunities, and mentoring, individuals will cultivate their skills and expertise needed to succeed in an operations management position including but not limited to safety, health and environmental, finance, sales, logistics and customer service, quality control, engineering, mine planning, production planning, optimization, maintenance and repair, etc.
Throughout the program, individuals will receive guidance from experienced professionals, engage in on-the-job training, and gradually take on more responsibility as proficiency is gained.
What You’ll Do: Safety.
Ensure adherence to safety policies and protocols and compliance with regulatory standards in all operations activities.
Take an active role in prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure all assigned plants have zero accidents and are in full compliance with all Vulcan policies and procedures.
Compliance.
Learn about legal and regulatory compliance, as well as identifying and mitigating operational risks.
This may include safety protocols, environmental regulations, etc.
Training and Development.
Engage in comprehensive training to gain knowledge and understanding of the company’s operations, policies, procedures, and systems.
Learn the Business.
This position will rotate through temporary assignments in order to gain a holistic understanding of Vulcan Materials Company, our operations, the day-to-day duties of many departments, and the importance of collaboration.
Learn the Operations.
Participate in hands-on training involving the operation of aggregate crushing and processing equipment, pit development, drilling and blasting practices, mobile equipment operation, quality control, customer service, maintenance, and overall facility management.
Operations Planning.
Forecasting, capacity planning, and scheduling resources to meet production or service delivery requirements.
Analyzing demand patterns, creating production plans, and optimizing resource allocation.
Monitor Processes and Materials.
Assist in analyzing production, inventory requirements, quality control, site planning, pit development, and operational reports regarding stripping, mining, processing, stockpiling, loading, and shipping to understand best practices in production and delivery needs.
Learn quality assurance techniques, data analysis, and implementing quality control processes.
Inspect Equipment.
Assist in daily inspection and maintenance of the plant and mobile equipment to understand best practices in diagnosis, as well as to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations to maximize production and minimize interruptions.
Perform Repairs and Maintenance.
Assist with inspections and minor maintenance around the plant to understand best practices on repairs of all fixed and mobile equipment.
Project Management.
Support work on specific projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are executed within budget, scope, and timeline.
Problem-Solving.
Assisting in problem-solving activities relating to operational challenges, helping to identify the root cause, and implementing corrective actions.
Documentation and Reporting.
Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to operational activities, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
Reporting and Analysis.
Gathering and analyzing operational data, generating reports, and presenting key performance indicators (KPIs).
Will work with spreadsheets, databases, and business intelligence software.

degree in Mining Engineering, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Business, Accounting, or other related field from an accredited 4-year university is preferred.
Previous internship or work experience in an operations environment is preferred but not required.

Work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant.
In the office, employees will occasionally be required to sit at a desk or operator's station.
In the outside setting employees will perform activities at various heights, around moving machinery, be exposed to dust, fumes, and gases; may be required to use hand tools or power tools.
Outside settings will expose employees to changes in temperature/humidity and will require walking on uneven surfaces.
May be required to climb steps, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, or reach above shoulders to accomplish functions of the job.
