Zuko was rescued from the Trenton Dog Shelter in June of 2023.
He is a mix breed, possible Shepherd, possible Husky mix and around 3 years old.
All I know for sure is he was too beautiful to be put down, so we rescued him from the shelter and brought him home.
He was underweight and under loved back then, but he has come a long way in the past 8 months.
From never being on a leash to being leash trained and house broken, he loves rides in the car, long walks at the park, running around at full speed, and hanging out in the shade not doin anything at all.
He found a sense of humor, he learned how to sit, stay, wait, down, up, off, here, catch and place.
He tolerates a bath, and gets the zoomies right after.
He has two best buddies that happen to be cats that he helped raise from kittens and he’s an excellent, excellent guard dog.
He was raised outside before he went to the shelter, and we are his first experience inside a house, so we learned that he doesn’t want to be left alone in the house.
He’s the kind of
dog who needs a securely fenced yard where he can run and play, and should not be chained to a tree or left in any kind of small enclosure like a crate.
He will break out of it.
Zuko is an awesome dog but he’s not for everybody.
Whoever gets to be his forever home must have a large securely fenced yard, preferably a security fence, or even better, they could live in the country , on a farm, where he could run and run and run.
He does have exercise needs and with his first home, he was not socialized properly as a puppy and has reactive behavior when he sees an unknown dog.
That would be fine in the country, but not in a a small neighborhood where there are lots of dogs.
Zuko gets along with female dogs but not with male dogs.
He is probably best as the only dog in a family, but if there is another dog, it would have to be a female.
He gets along with children, also.
His favorite type of person is a man, yes he does prefer to be a man’s best friend.
He could hang out while you work on the house or the car,
he’ll be right there just chilling.
Though he was tossed into a shelter by his previous owner, I have discovered that he is highly intelligent and loves to learn.
He could be trained to work in some way, in fact I think he wants to work.
When he bonds with you he becomes very loyal and is an excellent deterrent to almost anything or anyone.
He is being rehomed because I can no longer stay home with him full time.
I live in the city and have no fenced yard and I have to get back to work.
I am so grateful to have rescued Zuko from the shelter but I am only a foster mom at the end of the day.
Please consider whether you would be the right fit for this amazing best friend.
Zuko is neutered and up to date with his vaccinations.
